Waterloo,ON - K-W United FC is pleased to announce today the signings of Canadian goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod and Irish midfielder Liam Collins to their PDL roster.

MacLeod, 6-3 goalkeeper, is entering his freshman season with the Drake Bulldogs in the NCAA and played locally for Resurrection Catholic Secondary School in Waterloo where he lead his school to two district championships.

Prior to K-W United FC MacLeod had spent time with the Toronto FC Academy, Newcastle United FC Academy, and the Oakville Raiders where he led the OYSL team to two Ontario Cups and an OYSL League Championship.

“I’m pleased to have Darrin as part of our squad,” said Brett Mosen, K-W United FC Head Coach.  ”The fact Darrin is a local K-W boy is great for the club but more importantly Darrin is one of the most promising young goalkeeper talents in NCAA.”

“It is a privilege for a local goalkeeper to play this summer for Coach Mosen on K-W United FC.  It is an exciting opportunity for me,”  said MacLeod.  ”I am always looking for new challenges and opportunities to expand my knowledge of the game and I am sure that my time with K-W United FC will allow me that opportunity.”

Collins, a 5-9 midfileder, from Skibbereen, Ireland has spent the last two years with the Memphis Tigers in the NCAA. He has started in 34 of 35 games in his collegiate career and in 2011 was named a Conference USA First Team selection and was first in C-USA and fourth in the NCAA in assists with 11 on the season.

Prior to joining Memphis Collins played in Ireland where he won an Ireland Football Association U18 Championship with Colaiste Stiofan Naofa as well as a Cork City Championship.

“I’m very excited to getting started with K-W United FC,” said Collins.  ”The fanbase for the club looks very promising and us players have a responsibility to play exciting football as well as get the wins.”

“Liam is the type of player that every coach enjoys on his team,” said Mosen.  ”His attitude and commitment on the pitch will also make him a fan favourite. It will be a pleasure working with Liam again.”

K-W United FC’s mens team plays their home opener on Friday, June 7th at University Stadium in Waterloo against the River City Rovers. Game time is 7:30pm. Season tickets are available now atwww.kwunitedfc.com.
